Tuesday Book News

Today's USA Today had a great review of a new biography (which I don't normally like)  Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff.  Looks very interesting.......I sent the sample to my Kindle.
The new John le Carre looks good also.
So many books!!!
Wendy reported that she finished Hunger Games and went and bought the 2 books that follow.  I am so relieved that someone enjoyed it.  It is really a little out of our box.  But good!!!
Happy Reading,
Pam

Yay for Carole

At least now I know that it is possible for the rest of you to post.  If Carole can do it you all can.
Just picked up The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell.  Reminds me of Memoirs of a Geisha.  Also got Ina Garten's newest.  Not fabulous, but not disappointing.  It's a nice cookbook.
I'm glad Carole is enjoying Hunger Games.  How about the rest of you??

On my nightstand table:

Under the Fig Leaf, A Cookbook for Fig Lovers, by Sherri Lee

Life, by Keith Richards

The Last Stand: Custer, Sitting Bull and the Battle of Little Bighorn, by Nathaniel Philbrick

Laura Bush: Spoken from the Heart, by Laura Bush

An Army of Davids: How Markets and Technology Empower Ordinary People to Beat Big Media, Big Government and Other Goliaths, by Glenn Reynolds

I am happy to say that I have downloaded The Hunger Games and read about 10% of it! I'm sure that a member of a book club should not admit that she hasn't had enough focus or time to consume an entire novel from beginning to end for almost six months, but that is the sad truth. Thanks, Pam, for choosing an engaging story for me to re-join the world of literature! I'm enjoying it.

Site Set Up

I found an old list of books we have read for Book Group and added them.  It probably needs editing...my memory is unpredictable at best.   But it is a start.  I would like to start a feature called, "What's on my nightstand" so we can share books we are reading or would like to read.  Geri and Dee had a list from Sandi so if I can teach them how to post, they can share it with us.
To start......on my nightstand are:
1.  Union Atlantic by Adam  Haslett
2.  The Recessionistas by Alexandra Lebenthal
On My Kindle:
1.  Crooked Letter Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin  (mystery set in Mississippi)

I just finished:
1. A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan  ****
2.  The Widower's Tale by Julia Glass  **
3.  Stiltsville by Susanna Daniel  **  (written by a friend's daughter in Miami.  Notable only for it's setting)
4.  Strip by Thomas Perry   ***  (hilarious, kind of bawdy).

OK.....now it's your turn.
